I photographed this scene during the fall of 2016 on my annual visit to Zion National Park. I spent several days wandering the washes on the East side of Zion in search of interesting subjects. I found a fascinating stretch of sandstone, then placed a nearby oak leaf to help give a sense of scale. During the many years that I have spent at Zion, I hadn't noticed this area on previous visits. This is why I return to the same locations year after year in search of new subjects.
