About the Images: Both of these photos were taken on my winter 2022 visit to Death Valley National Park. They were taken in the same dune field, though several days apart. It was the diagonal emphasis of the sand that captured my attention in the first photo. I established my composition well before sunrise, then took this photo at the very moment the sun was partially obscured on the horizon by a distant mountain range. The result is a soft yet warm directional light. The second photo is of dried mud within the same dune field. It was also taken at the moment the setting sun was obscured by mountains in the distance. Both photos were taken on Fuji Provia 100 8x10 film, which is why the color palettes are so complementary.
